"Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me." –Revelation 3:20
The picture painted in this verse is deeply personal. Jesus standing at the door–not of a church, not of a nation, but of an individual heart. Your heart. He knocks. He doesn't barge in. He doesn't force His way through. He waits.
It's easy to think of this verse as a call to the lost, and while it certainly applies to those who have never known Him, the real weight of this passage is for believers. Jesus was speaking to the church of Laodicea, a church that had grown lukewarm, distracted, and self-satisfied. They had some relationship with Him, but not an active one. Not a diligent one.

How often do we let Jesus stand outside while we go about our routines? We say we love Him, but our Bibles collect dust. We call Him Lord, but our prayers are rushed or absent. We hear His voice but delay in answering. And still, He knocks.
To be diligent in our relationship with the Lord means to live aware of His presence–not just on Sundays, not just when life gets hard, but daily. It means prioritizing Him over distractions, and choosing time with Him when everything else screams for our attention. Jesus isn't asking for a quick visit; He wants to dine with us, to share in our lives, to be our closest companion.
The question is, do we hear the knock? More importantly, are we opening the door?
A Prayer for Diligence:
Lord, forgive me for the times I've let You stand outside while I've been too busy with lesser things. I don't want a lukewarm heart. I don't want to give You half-hearted devotion. Stir up a hunger in me for more of you. Help me to open the door every day–to seek You first, to listen to Your voice, and to never grow weary in our relationship. Thank you for never giving up on me. In Jesus' name, amen.
