Rooted in Christ: A Devotional from Ephesians

"So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord's holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge–that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God."


Have you ever stood beneath a towering tree and admired its strength? No matter how fierce the winds blow or how heavy the rain falls, that tree remains standing because its roots run deep. That's the kind of faith Paul is praying for in this passage–that we would be rooted and established in the love of Christ.


Life is unpredictable. One day, everything seems to be going well, and the next, we're faced with trials that shake us to the core. Maybe you've experienced a season like that–a time when you felt uncertain, afraid, or even distant from God. In those moments, it's easy to feel like you're standing alone in the storm. But the truth is, if you are rooted in Christ, you are never alone. His love surrounds you, holds you, and strengthens you.


Paul describes the love of Christ as something beyond human understanding. It is wide enough to cover every mistake, long enough to stretch through all eternity, high enough to lift us from despair, and deep enough to reach us at our lowest point. No matter where you've been, what you've done, or how unworthy you feel, His love remains the same.


I don't know what you're going through right now, but I do know this: You are deeply loved by God. He isn't waiting for you to clean yourself up or get everything right before embracing you. His love is already here, surrounding you, inviting you to draw closer. And when you do, you will experience the fullness of His presence–peace in the chaos, strength in the struggle, and joy that isn't based on circumstances.


Being rooted in Christ means allowing His love to shape the way we see ourselves and the world around us. When we truly grasp His love, we no longer have to strive for approval or live in fear of the future. We can walk confidently, knowing we are chosen, redeemed, and secure in Him.
