Be the Light

"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden." –Matthew 5:14
There's something about light that draws us in. It's comforting, steady, and it helps us see when everything around us feels dark. I think about this verse from Jesus often–especially when I'm feeling discouraged or small. "You are the light of the world." Not you might be, or try to be, but you are.

That's a lot to take in. Jesus, the Light of the World Himself, turns to His followers and says, "Now it's your turn."
I'll be honest–there are days I don't feel much like a light. I feel more like a flickering candle in a windstorm. I wrestle with doubts, impatience, and all the messiness that comes with being human. But light isn't about being perfect. It's about being present. It's about showing up in love when it would be easier to turn away.
Sometimes being the light means offering a listening ear when someone is hurting. Other times it means standing up for what's right, even when it's unpopular. And often, it's simply choosing kindness in a world that runs on criticism and comparison.
I don't have to be the sun–I just need to reflect the One who made it. Like the moon reflecting sunlight in the night sky, our lives can shine just by being close to Jesus.
So today, let's take Him at His word. Let's choose to be the light–right where we are. Not flashy or loud. Just steady, real, and full of grace.
Prayer
Jesus, thank You for calling me to be light in this world. Some days I feel like I have so little to give–but I know that with You, even the smallest spark can shine bright. Help me to stay close to You, to reflect Your love in every space I enter. Let others see You in me. Amen.
Credit to my aunt once again! Each week, she hands me an envelope filled with receipts for my Fetch app, but the real treasure is the artwork she decorates them with. Her creation this time was the inspiration for the post!
